Rapper and entertainment mogul Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on February 14, 2027. The event will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which serves as the home field for both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The announcement was shared across social media platforms accompanied by a video featuring his song “Public Service Announcement.”
A First-Time Super Bowl Performance
Jay-Z’s entertainment agency, Roc Nation, entered into a partnership with the NFL in 2019 to produce and direct the halftime entertainment. Since entering the agreement, the 89-time Grammy nominee has held a central role in selecting the headlining acts for the annual championship game. This will mark the first time the 56-year-old artist has taken the halftime stage as a performer.
In a press release, Jay-Z reflected on reaching this milestone in his decades-long career. “From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey,” Jay-Z said. “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that having the artist perform has been a goal for the league since their collaboration began. “For several years, we’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation, and I’ve seen the extraordinary impact he has had on the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” Goodell said. “When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him. I couldn’t be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage.”
Tour Context and Recent Lineups
Jay-Z is currently on his JAŸ-Z30 Tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. While no guest performers have been announced for the Valentine’s Day event, guest appearances are typical for the broadcast. His wife, Beyoncé, has previously performed at multiple NFL events, including headlining the 2013 halftime show, sharing the stage with Coldplay and Bruno Mars in 2016, singing the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, and performing during a halftime show on Christmas Day in 2024.
Hip-hop artists have frequently led the halftime show in recent years. Kendrick Lamar headlined two years ago alongside guest artist SZA, following earlier performances this decade by Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Lil Jon. Last year’s halftime show was headlined by Bad Bunny.
