The Dallas Cowboys secured a 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field to move to 3-4 on the season, yet head coach Brian Schottenheimer and quarterback Dak Prescott kept their celebrations muted amid ongoing external criticism. Prescott threw three touchdown passes as Dallas balanced over 200 yards passing with over 200 yards rushing, but team leaders stressed that a single win over a depleted rival is only a single step forward.

Refusing to Get Complacent

Despite the 17-point division win on the road, Prescott expressed a calm perspective following the game. He noted that while the statistics highlighted their most complete offensive outing of the year, the team could not afford to get complacent. Prior to this matchup, consecutive prime-time losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers had drawn public scrutiny toward Schottenheimer’s play-calling, game management, and offensive strategy.

Addressing the external doubts surrounding the coaching staff, Prescott described seeing a “definitely hungry, pissed-off version of Schotty” entering the contest. Prescott emphasized that the head coach was well aware of the outside noise regarding his performance, adding that the locker room fully supported him and remained focused on executing during games.

Committing to the Rushing Attack

The Eagles played without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, while running back Saquon Barkley dealt with hamstring and back injuries. Despite those absences, Philadelphia managed early touchdowns on its first two drives. In response, the Dallas offense leaned heavily on its ground game to maintain control.

Dallas logged a season-high 38 rushing attempts, shifting away from the limited running numbers that contributed to their previous two losses. Running back Javonte Williams capitalized on the strategy, recording a career-high 155 rushing yards. Williams pointed out that the presence of dangerous perimeter receivers helped create open lanes in the running defense.

The rushing workload opened up opportunities for receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, who combined for 131 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Prescott explained that the team had made a conscious decision to commit to running the ball regardless of early inefficiency, acknowledging that previous games saw them move away from the run earlier than desired when trailing.

Division Outlook and Handling External Noise

With the win, Dallas moved into second place in the NFC East, trailing the 4-2-1 New York Giants by 1.5 games. Lamb, who caught two touchdown passes and finished with 74 receiving yards, noted the importance of the result for both division standings and team confidence after losing games they felt were within reach.

Prescott reflected on how outside criticism impacts members of the organization, telling Yahoo Sports that while negative commentary does not affect him personally, seeing how it influences teammates and coaches remains a concern. He noted that while some individuals use external noise as motivation, the priority remains protecting the group and building consistency.

The Cowboys now return home to face the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals, seeking to stack back-to-back victories and maintain momentum in the division race.
