Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that Jack Grealish will remain unavailable for the team’s upcoming Premier League match against Coventry this Friday. The 31-year-old midfielder is currently sidelined due to a breach of club discipline.
Ongoing Disciplinary Absence
Grealish, who is currently on loan from Manchester City, has already missed Everton’s recent fixtures against Newcastle in both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. While the club has provided limited details regarding the nature of the incident, it is understood that the disciplinary action stems from an unauthorized absence from training.
Following Everton’s victory at St James’ Park on Monday, Moyes stated that while Grealish still has a future at the club, the timeline for his return remains uncertain. When asked during a press conference on Thursday if the midfielder would be available for the Coventry game, Moyes replied, “No, Jack is not available.”
Regarding the path forward, the manager declined to provide a specific timeline for reintegration, noting, “I wouldn’t give you the plan but we will be working with Jack again soon.” When questioned about whether the upcoming international break might provide a window to resolve the situation, Moyes added, “We just need to wait and see how things go.”
Career Context at Everton
Grealish is currently in his second loan spell at Everton as he seeks to revive his career. The midfielder previously played a significant role in Manchester City’s 2022-23 Treble-winning campaign, though he has since fallen out of favor at his parent club, which originally signed him for £100m in 2021. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
During his initial loan stint at Goodison Park last season, Grealish scored two goals in 22 appearances before an injury cut his time short. Since returning to the club for the current campaign, he has made six appearances prior to his current exclusion from the squad.
