Harry Kane Would Trade Ballon d’Or for Champions League Title

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has stated that he would willingly exchange his recently won Ballon d’Or trophy for a Champions League winner’s medal. The 33-year-old made history as the first Englishman since 2001 to claim the prestigious accolade, triumphing over Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal.

Prioritizing Team Success

Speaking at a news conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League encounter with Atletico Madrid in Spain, Kane emphasized that collective achievements remain his ultimate priority following a turbulent week. He acknowledged that while winning the Ballon d’Or in London stood as a career highlight that elevated his status, sharing emotions and lifting major trophies alongside teammates carried greater significance.

Kane joined an elite group of English Ballon d’Or recipients that includes Michael Owen, Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, and Kevin Keegan. Bayern and their fans celebrated the milestone before their fixture against Borussia Dortmund, marking the club’s first Ballon d’Or winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981. Reflecting on the past week, Kane described a period of emotional extremes after scoring 73 goals for club and country last season to secure a domestic treble.

Contract Talks and Manager’s Absence

Alongside his on-field success, Kane reported that discussions regarding a new contract with Bayern have progressed positively and are nearing completion. The striker, who moved to the German club from Tottenham in August 2023 for 100 million euros, indicated that major terms are settled while legal representatives finalize minor details. He expects an announcement within the next few days.

Meanwhile, Bayern’s preparations continue without head coach Vincent Kompany, who collapsed during a reserve team training session and was hospitalized. Although Kompany was discharged after five days to continue his recovery at home, assistant Aaron Danks has managed first-team responsibilities in the interim without a confirmed date for the Belgian manager’s return.
