Former Sabres Goalie James Reimer Terminates Rangers Contract

James Reimer has officially become a free agent again after mutually terminating his contract with the New York Rangers.

Contract Termination and Roster Moves

The roster change comes shortly after the Rangers placed Reimer on waivers earlier in the week. The move to waive the veteran goaltender was prompted by Joonas Korpisalo returning from injury for New York. Rather than reporting to the American Hockey League, Reimer opted to terminate his deal with the organization.

Brief Stint With the Rangers

Reimer’s tenure in New York proved to be extremely brief and challenging. He logged only one appearance for the team on Oct. 26 against the Los Angeles Kings. During that outing, he surrendered three goals on just eight shots and was pulled before the end of the first period.

The contract termination leaves the 38-year-old netminder looking for a new opportunity less than two weeks after he originally signed with the Rangers. Prior to his time in New York, Reimer played the 2024-25 season with the Buffalo Sabres. Over 22 appearances for Buffalo that year, he recorded a 10-8-2 record alongside a .901 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average.
