MLB insider Jim Bowden discussed a potential trade involving Cincinnati Reds star shortstop Elly De La Cruz during an appearance on the “D-Mac and Reiter Show” on Thursday.
Trade Speculation and Performance
Bowden stated that he believes the Reds could consider trading their star player this offseason, according to an X post shared by Doug McKain. Bowden explained that a deal of this magnitude would benefit both the Dodgers and organizations like the Reds and Washington Nationals, noting that the Dodgers should already evaluate options for their next superstar player.
De La Cruz stands out as one of the most dynamic talents in Major League Baseball. During the previous season with Cincinnati, he recorded a .283 batting average, an .880 OPS, 30 home runs, and 30 stolen bases.
Social Media and Basketball Loyalties
While Los Angeles fans would welcome the infielder’s arrival, local Lakers supporters might need to adjust. De La Cruz shared multiple video clips to his Instagram Story celebrating a Golden State Warriors victory over the Lakers.
The 24-year-old specifically highlighted a play where Steph Curry crossed over Luka Dončić, sending the Lakers guard to the floor. De La Cruz has consistently expressed deep admiration for Curry, repeatedly identifying him as his favorite NBA athlete over the years.
In an August 2024 interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, De La Cruz mentioned that he recognizes parallels between his own athletic style and that of Curry.
Should a trade ultimately send De La Cruz to the Dodgers, sports enthusiasts in Los Angeles will need to accept his support for Golden State and Curry whenever the Warriors face the Lakers.
