Como delivered a historic performance in the Champions League, thrashing Lens 9-1 to equal the record for the most goals scored by a single team in a match in the competition’s history. The result sees Cesc Fabregas’ side join Bayern Munich as the only teams to net nine times in a single game during the 2024-25 league phase.
A Historic Night in Northern France
The scoring began early in Northern France, with Tasos Douvikas finding the net from close range in the seventh minute. Douvikas struck again shortly after the half-hour mark, and Nico Paz added a third before the interval with a powerful strike into the roof of the net. The momentum continued into the second half, where Lucas Da Cunha scored the first of six goals following the break, followed by a header from Marc-Oliver Kempf.
Douvikas completed his hat-trick after being set up by Paz, and Mattia Liberali added a seventh goal at the near post. While Ruben Aguilar managed to pull one back for Lens following a corner from Florian Thauvin, Como quickly responded through Martin Baturina, who scored following a sequence of play involving Liberali. The historic rout was finalized by debutant Matteo Papaccioli, whose goal was confirmed by VAR after an initial offside ruling was overturned.
