Bryson DeChambeau’s LIV Golf Future Stuns Golf Analyst

Rex Hoggard admitted that he is shocked by Bryson DeChambeau’s apparent faith that he can turn LIV Golf’s fortunes around, with the league seemingly struggling to fill its roster for the 2027 season.

LIV Golf has faced several negative updates in recent weeks, primarily concerning players departing the league following a decision to file for bankruptcy in September. While players such as Richard Bland, Brendan Steele, Ben Campbell, and Cameron Tringale have committed to staying with LIV for its relaunch, DeChambeau has not yet publicly confirmed his 2027 plans.

DeChambeau Hints at Staying for LIV 2.0

DeChambeau gave his clearest hint yet that he will sign up for LIV 2.0 by reiterating his belief in the concept during an appearance on the Figuring Out Podcast. Speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast after that interview, Rex Hoggard stated that he is baffled by DeChambeau’s perspective on his future.

According to Hoggard, speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast, DeChambeau appears to be on the fence while leaning toward the 2.0 project because the team model, franchises, and player equity appeal to him. Hoggard questioned what the league could possibly look like with DeChambeau alongside 35 to 40 other players, noting that he has not seen any other compelling names and questioning if DeChambeau believes he can build the product entirely on his own.

Hoggard added on the podcast, as reported by sports.yahoo.com, that such a perspective demonstrates a level of narcissism that he finds shocking, though it remains clear that the player is leaning in that direction.

Brand Impact and Future Prospects

DeChambeau may genuinely believe that BC Partners can build a tour capable of rivaling the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, continuing a history of taking risks to impact the game. At present, however, staying with LIV allows the two-time US Open champion to relish being its biggest star and hold significant influence over decisions, knowing the league cannot afford to lose him.

While a return to the PGA Tour would generate excitement, that novelty could fade if he failed to consistently compete against players like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. By remaining with LIV, he preserves his status as one of the game’s most intriguing figures, leaving observers to wonder if he possesses insider knowledge unavailable to the rest of the world.
