Bryson DeChambeau has broken his silence on social media following the unexpected shutdown of LIV Golf. The two-time major champion, who previously expressed belief that the league could endure indefinitely, addressed the collapse and his professional future for the first time.
Reflecting on LIV Golf and Team Competition
DeChambeau shared a detailed statement on social media reflecting on his time with the league. He stated, “I’m not going to rewrite the last four years. I made a decision I believed in, and I’m grateful for what came with it: playing in front of fans new and old around the world who rarely got to see the best players at home. The record crowds in Adelaide and Johannesburg will stick with me for the rest of my life.”
He expressed gratitude to the operational staff, caddies, league personnel, and his Crushers GC teammates who supported the venture from the beginning. DeChambeau maintained his support for team competition, noting that while the format might evolve, he still considers it vital for expanding the sport.
Reflecting on past remarks, DeChambeau acknowledged, “Arnold Palmer said no player is bigger than the game, and I want to acknowledge that, along the way, I’ve said some things that didn’t help. Whatever comes next, I’ll approach it with humility and respect for the people who carried this game long before me.”
Upcoming Schedule and Future Opportunities
Looking ahead, DeChambeau confirmed he will compete at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, hosted by Gary Player, from Dec. 3-6 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City. His friendship with Player influenced his decision to participate in the event in South Africa, marking his first tournament appearance since LIV Golf Indianapolis.
While the closure of LIV Golf leaves professionals weighing their next steps—with some already targeting the DP World Tour for 2027 where DeChambeau holds a full exemption from his 2024 U.S. Open victory—DeChambeau stated he is keeping his options open for whatever opportunities emerge as he continues his mission to grow the game.
