Browns Seek First Series Sweep Against Steelers Since 1988

The Cleveland Browns visit the Pittsburgh Steelers with first place in the AFC North on the line as both teams enter the matchup with matching 5-2 records.

Chasing History in Pittsburgh

An interesting historical subplot surrounds the game, as the Browns have not swept the regular-season series against the Steelers since 1988. During that 1988 campaign, the Browns claimed a 23-9 victory in Week 5 before securing a 27-7 triumph in Cleveland during Week 12.

A series sweep was also possible in 1989 after the Browns dismantled the Steelers 51-0 in the season opener in Pittsburgh. However, the Steelers bounced back by the Week 6 rematch to take a 17-7 victory.

The Browns currently carry a 22-game regular-season losing streak when playing in Pittsburgh. Despite those regular-season struggles on the road, the Browns did achieve a notable postseason win during that span, defeating the Steelers 48-37 in the 2020 wild-card round.
