Brighton Beats Getafe 1-0 in Europa Conference League

Malick Yalcouye scored the only goal of the match as Brighton continued their unbeaten Europa Conference League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Getafe in Spain.

First Half Action and Chances

Fabian Hurzeler’s side controlled possession for large periods at the Coliseum, though they had to work hard against Jose Bordalas’ hosts. Brighton created the stronger scoring opportunities during the opening 45 minutes, with Jack Hinshelwood and Jaouen Hadjam both threatening the goal.

The visiting team started brightly, and Hinshelwood came close to opening the scoring in the 15th minute with a shot from outside the penalty area that missed narrowly. Georginio Rutter and Yasin Ayari also missed the target as Brighton maintained pressure in attack.

At the other end, Getafe slowly worked their way into the game. Martin Satriano headed an effort over the crossbar, and Ivan Azon forced goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen into making a save from close range inside the box. Brighton answered back through Hadjam, whose long-range strike was stopped by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. Despite holding over 66 percent of possession in the first half, the visitors were unable to break the deadlock before halftime.

Second Half Breakthrough

The decisive moment arrived after the interval when Yalcouye scored with a header, finally rewarding Brighton’s persistent attacking play on Spanish soil. Getafe attempted to find an equalizer following the goal, but the English side comfortably defended their lead to claim three important away points in the competition.

Brighton will now turn their attention back to domestic action in the Premier League, where they are scheduled to face Brentford.
