Venezia climbed out of the Serie A relegation zone after securing a 2-1 home victory over Udinese, while Borussia Monchengladbach remained at the foot of the Bundesliga table following a 3-1 defeat at Hamburg.
Venezia Prevails in Serie A Relegation Battle
Kike Perez delivered a decisive strike to earn Venezia their second victory of the league campaign. The result allowed the home team to leapfrog Udinese, who dropped to the bottom of the standings following their eighth defeat of the season. Udinese have been mainstays in Italy’s top division since their promotion in 1995, but the loss leaves them in serious danger of relegation.
Venezia opened the scoring eight minutes into the second half when Toma Basic finished from close range. Udinese equalized shortly after when an own goal by Matias Moreno leveled the match. However, Perez restored Venezia’s advantage with a curling effort from more than 20 yards out that found the top-right corner.
Gladbach Slips Again in the Bundesliga
Borussia Monchengladbach’s difficult start to the season continued in Germany as they fell 3-1 away to Hamburg. Miro Muheim opened the scoring for Hamburg with a long-range shot, but Gladbach equalized just before the break when Joe Scally’s effort deflected off teammate Robin Hack and into the net.
Gladbach’s hopes were damaged four minutes into the second half when Ko Itakura was sent off for a second yellow card. Hamburg took advantage of the extra man, securing the win with goals from Shafiq Nandja and Albert Gronbaek.
In other European action, Sevilla played out a goalless 0-0 draw against Alaves in LaLiga, while Toulouse recorded a 3-1 home win over Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
