Pierre Sage Warns Palace of ‘Crazy’ Liverpool Test

Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has cautioned his squad to prepare for a demanding Premier League fixture against Liverpool this weekend. The manager characterized the upcoming opponents as a “crazy team” that will be eager to bounce back from recent setbacks.

Reflecting on the Europa League Draw

The warning follows Crystal Palace’s recent Europa League match against Hoffenheim, which ended in a draw. Despite being reduced to ten men after Adam Wharton received a red card, the team managed to fight back to secure a result. Sage commended his players for their resilience and refusal to surrender, though he noted that the side must refine their game management following another match hampered by disciplinary issues.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Sage acknowledged that while the team’s performance could have been stronger, the contributions of goalkeeper Dean Henderson were vital. “I think it could be better if we score before but I know too that Dean Henderson kept us in the game with his saves,” Sage stated. He added that he appreciated the team’s energy and their persistence until the final whistle, noting that they even had a late opportunity to potentially win the match.

Adjusting for the Liverpool Clash

The dismissal of Wharton forced a tactical reshuffle, requiring Sage to reorganize the defensive structure mid-game. While the manager declined to offer an opinion on the officiating, he recognized the significant impact of losing a key player during such a contest. “I never comment on the decision of the referee,” he remarked.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Sage expects a highly motivated Liverpool side, particularly as they seek to recover from two consecutive defeats. The manager emphasized the need for careful preparation and physical recovery before facing the Reds. “First of all recovery and we have to build the gameplan because it’s a crazy team with really good players,” Sage explained. He concluded by noting that Liverpool’s recent losses will likely drive them to approach the match with significant ambition, a challenge Palace must be ready to confront.
