The 2026 NFL trade deadline approaches with a flurry of blockbuster transactions redistributing elite talent across multiple positions. The Chicago Bears emerged as early winners by acquiring defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, while the Indianapolis Colts initiated a major teardown by trading key veterans.
Bears Make Splash for Simmons
The Chicago Bears traded a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. By giving up two future first-round selections for the perennial All-Pro, the Bears signaled a firm commitment to Super Bowl contention. Simmons immediately justified the steep price by recording a sack and six tackles in a 34-17 victory over the Seahawks. The move leaves the Titans searching for answers regarding their future at quarterback and leaning heavily into a complete rebuild.
Colts Dismantle Roster
The Indianapolis Colts shipped star interior lineman DeForest Buckner back to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick. San Francisco needed immediate defensive line help after injuries sidelined CJ West and Alfred Collins, prompting a reunion with Buckner, who spent the first six-plus seasons of his career with the franchise. For Indianapolis, parting ways with a 32-year-old veteran on an expiring contract netted some value before he could depart in free agency.
Seattle also bolstered its roster by trading a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Colts for star offensive lineman Quenton Nelson. Seahawks general manager Jon Schneider continued a four-year streak of making impactful midseason moves to support the running game. The Colts accepted another discount for a premier talent, leaving them without first-round picks across the next two drafts.
Other Notable Moves Around the League
The Houston Texans acquired Marvin Harrison Jr. and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick. The trade reunites Harrison with his former college quarterback, C.J. Stroud, as Houston attempts to develop the young wide receiver. The Cardinals cut ties with a player who struggled to fit into their system, securing a valuable second-round selection in return.
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens traded a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to stabilize their interior offensive line. The Dallas Cowboys acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2028 second-round pick and a conditional sixth-rounder, hoping to patch up a struggling secondary. Finally, the New York Giants picked up quarterback J.J. McCarthy and a 2027 fifth-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings, providing crucial insurance after an injury to Jaxson Dart.
