The New York Giants have secured a long-term agreement with defensive back Greg Newsome II, reaching terms on a three-year extension worth $46 million. As reported by ESPN, the deal includes $32 million in guaranteed money for the 26-year-old cornerback.
Contract Details and Market Value
Newsome originally joined New York on a one-year contract worth $8 million in March. This new extension elevates his average annual earnings to $15.3 million. That average keeps him just outside the top 20 highest-paid cornerbacks across the league, placing him slightly behind Detroit Lions cornerback D.J. Reed ($16 million average) and just ahead of Tennessee Titans cornerback Cordale Flott ($15 million average).
Strong On-Field Performance
The extension follows a productive start to Newsome’s tenure in New York. According to TruMedia, he has limited opposing receivers to a 53.6 percent completion rate on targets through six games this season. Opposing passers have recorded a 57.7 passer rating against him, setting him on course for a career best after previously logging a 73.2 rating low with the Cleveland Browns in 2023 and 2025.
Through six contests, Newsome has not allowed a touchdown while yielding only two passes of 20 yards or more, alongside recording one interception.
Career Background
Drafted out of Northwestern in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 26th overall pick, Newsome spent four and a half years with Cleveland before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars early last October. After struggling in Jacksonville—where he surrendered five touchdown passes across 12 games—Newsome revived his form with the Giants, prompting the team to lock him in past the 2026 campaign.
