Sussex Appoints Beth Barrett-Wild as First Female CEO

Sussex have appointed Beth Barrett-Wild as the first female chief executive in the county’s history, alongside proposing former England bowler Holly Colvin as one of five new non-executive directors.

Leadership Changes and Board Nominations

Barrett-Wild is scheduled to start her role at Sussex on 1 January 2027. She brings 13 years of experience from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), where her positions included director of the women’s professional game, head of The Hundred’s women’s competition, and tournament director of the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Sussex chair Ed Warner praised her past work, stating, “Her achievements in the game have propelled women’s cricket to an entirely new level.” He added, “I’m excited at the prospect of working closely with Beth to ensure a bright future at Sussex Cricket.”

New Non-Executive Directors Proposed

Colvin, 37, represented Sussex between 2005 and 2015, securing two women’s County Championships and scoring the winning run for England in the 2009 World Cup final. She is nominated to join the board alongside another former Sussex Women’s player, Alison Bruce.

The proposed board additions also include entrepreneur and cricket coach Paul Farris, business owner and former Sussex Young Cricketers’ vice-captain Mark Jeffries, and BBC journalist and Sussex member Callum May.

All five nominees will begin three-year terms on the board following the formal ratification of their positions at the club’s annual general meeting in March.
