Barcelona Beats Aston Villa 3-0 in Champions League Match

Lamine Yamal set a new Champions League record as Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Camp Nou to maintain their strong European campaign. The result halted Unai Emery’s side’s perfect record in the competition, as clinical finishing and defensive errors proved decisive.

Yamal Opens the Scoring Early

As reported by 101 Great Goals, Barcelona controlled possession from the outset, taking the lead after just seven minutes when Yamal became the highest-scoring teenager in Champions League history with his 14th goal in the tournament. The 19-year-old capitalized on a defensive miscue after Joao Gomes played a misplaced pass across his own penalty area, allowing Yamal to collect the ball, beat his marker, and fire a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Aston Villa sought an immediate response, seeing close-range efforts from Matty Cash and Gomes blocked within the penalty area. Despite the hosts dominating possession, Villa threatened on the counter-attack, with Nicolas Jackson setting up Johan Manzambi in the 19th minute, though the midfielder missed the target. Jackson was subsequently denied by a rushing Garcia, while Suzuki made a vital save to stop Anthony Gordon following another mistake by the Villa goalkeeper.

Before halftime, a late challenge by Jackson on Pau Cubarsi led to a VAR review for a potential red card, but the referee maintained the initial yellow card decision.

Raphinha Secures the Victory

Raphinha extended Barcelona’s lead in the 52nd minute, latching onto a throughball from Fermin Lopez, moving past Pau Torres, and squeezing a left-footed shot past Suzuki for his 18th goal of the season. Shortly after, Villa appealed for a penalty when Emiliano Buendia fell under a challenge from Brian Farinas, but play continued.

Barcelona sealed the match in the 64th minute when Joao Cancelo delivered a low cross from the left flank, allowing Raphinha to tap in his second goal from close range and his 19th of the season in 13 appearances. Villa pushed to reduce the deficit as Leon Goretzka headed against the outside of the post, Tammy Abraham missed wide, and Gordon shot over the bar.

Yamal nearly added a fourth late in the game, forcing Suzuki into a sharp fingertip save after driving into the area, while Ross Barkley missed a final opportunity for the visitors by firing over the crossbar.
