Jalen Ramsey on Steelers’ Season and Defense After Week 8

Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 8 victory over the Browns, veteran defensive back Jalen Ramsey shared his thoughts with CBS Sports Headlines on the team’s position heading into their bye week. At 6-2 and holding sole possession of first place in the AFC North, Pittsburgh has put together a strong first half of the season.

Reflecting on Career and Playing Through Injury

Now in his 11th NFL season and second with the Steelers after a June 2025 trade from the Dolphins, the eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro has continued to excel despite playing with a broken wrist. When asked how he maintains his physical and tenacious style of play with such an injury, Ramsey credited divine blessing, pain medication, and mental focus, noting he refuses to take his gift for football for granted regardless of the circumstances.

Ramsey also pointed to his desire to play for his teammates, the fans, and the organization as core motivators that drive his passion and willingness to endure injuries. Reflecting on his transition to Pittsburgh after winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, Ramsey expressed appreciation for how the fan base has embraced him, noting that he modeled his game after past great Steelers defenders who played with heart, physicality, and fierceness.

Evaluating the Steelers’ State and Offense

While acknowledging that it is far too early to make championship guarantees, Ramsey assessed the team’s overall trajectory through the first eight weeks. He explained to CBS Sports Headlines that the team is in a good spot entering the bye week, having experienced both highs and lows that have helped the squad find its groove and understand different phases of the journey.

Ramsey also praised the performance of the Pittsburgh offense, particularly the strong running game that routinely produces 200-yard games and keeps the defense rested on the sidelines. Describing the offensive balance as a defense’s dream, Ramsey emphasized that any defensive player would welcome that level of support.
