A 15-0 run spearheaded by Bo Nix propelled the Denver Broncos to a dramatic 28-24 victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Entering the home matchup as 1.5-point underdogs according to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Broncos secured the game with a defensive stand and a sack of Mahomes.
Game-Winning Drive and Defensive Stand
A missed field goal by Harrison Butker set up the decisive late-game drive for Denver. Nix and Jonah Coleman quickly marched down the field, taking the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the contest. Nix connected with Coleman for a 51-yard reception to reach the red zone, and Coleman scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown one play later.
Mahomes and the Chiefs responded by moving deep into Denver territory, aided by a long pass to Travis Kelce. However, the Broncos’ defense held firm at the 1-yard line and sealed the triumph by sacking Mahomes as time expired.
Scoring Breakdown
Denver opened the scoring with a field goal from Will Lutz, but Kansas City replied when Mahomes threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Rashee Rice to claim a 7-3 lead after the first quarter. Both squads added a field goal and another touchdown in the second quarter, leaving the Chiefs ahead 17-13 at halftime.
During the second quarter, Mahomes delivered a 73-yard touchdown pass to Emmett Johnson. Nix answered by targeting Jaylen Waddle for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal to keep Denver close. The third quarter featured just one score, a touchdown pass to Noah Gray that pushed the Kansas City advantage to two scores.
The Broncos mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter when Nix found Nate Adkins for a touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion that narrowed the gap to a field goal. Kansas City later consumed over six minutes of game clock on a drive, but a sack on Mahomes forced a challenging 54-yard field goal attempt that Butker missed.

The outcome handed the Chiefs their second consecutive defeat following a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, dropping them to 5-2 after five opening wins. Meanwhile, the Broncos improved to 6-2 to claim the top spot in the AFC West, pushing Kansas City down to second place.
