American tennis star Ben Shelton has announced a major addition to his coaching staff ahead of the 2027 season. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who previously coached Carlos Alcaraz for seven years until their split in December 2025, is set to join Shelton’s team.
Coaching Partnership and Social Media Announcement
Ferrero, a former Roland Garros champion, will work alongside Ben’s father and coach, Bryan Shelton, in the American player’s coaching box moving forward. Shelton broke the news through a statement on his Instagram story on Sunday afternoon.
Expressing his thoughts on the new partnership, Shelton said in his social media post, “Huge addition to my team for this upcoming season! Juan Carlos Ferrero, excited to get started and put in the work this offseason… let’s get it.”
Track Record and Career Progress
Shelton has been coached by his father, Bryan, since turning professional in 2023. Throughout this period, Ben has climbed to a career-high ranking of world number four, claimed two Masters 1000 titles in Canada, and reached the US Open final.
Ferrero brings an impressive resume in player development, having guided Carlos Alcaraz to six Grand Slam titles—including the 2022 US Open, 2023 Wimbledon, 2024 Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and the 2025 Roland Garros and US Open—alongside eight Masters 1000 titles and the world number one ranking.
Looking Ahead to 2027
Shelton’s 2026 Grand Slam campaign included a quarter-final exit at the Australian Open against Jannik Sinner with scores of 3-6, 4-6, 4-6, a second-round defeat to Raphael Collignon at Roland Garros at 4-6, 5-7, 4-6, and a first-round loss at Wimbledon to Otto Virtanen at 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 2-6, 6-7. He concluded his major run that year by reaching the US Open final, where he fell to Alexander Zverev 3-6, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6.
Ben Shelton will look to leverage Ferrero’s extensive experience and technical expertise to elevate his performance and achieve further success on the international circuit.
