Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton stands on the threshold of a landmark achievement as he targets his 200th career victory on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Having collected five wins in 2026, Payton is just one win away from joining an elite group of only 11 other NFL head coaches who have reached the 200-win threshold.
Chasing All-Time NFL Coaching Records
Across 319 career games as a head coach, the 62-year-old has compiled a record of 199-120, combining postseason and regular-season play. His overall mark includes 189 wins and 110 losses in the regular season, along with a 10-10 record in the playoffs.
Reaching 201 total victories with two more wins would move Payton into a tie with Dan Reeves and Mike Tomlin for 10th place on the all-time list. Four wins beyond that point would put him level with Marty Schottenheimer at 205 victories, while Chuck Noll sits eighth with 209 wins and Paul Brown holds seventh place with 222. Long-term, Payton could potentially reach Tom Landry, who ranks fifth overall with 270 wins.
Beyond his overall win tally, Payton is also seeking to become the first head coach to win a Super Bowl with two separate franchises. Other active head coaches in position to potentially achieve that milestone include Giants coach John Harbaugh and Steelers coach Mike McCarthy.
