Leicester Tigers captain Ollie Chessum has signed a new multi-year agreement to extend his stay at Welford Road.
Academy Graduate and Club Captain
The 26-year-old has accumulated 88 appearances following his graduation from the Tigers academy. He achieved a Premiership title victory with the squad in 2022 and took on the role of club captain prior to the 2025/26 campaign. This fresh two-year contract follows closely behind teammate and fellow England international Jack van Poortvliet, who committed his future to the club less than a week earlier.
Head Coach Praise
Leicester head coach Geoff Parling highlighted the importance of retaining academy graduates who harbor a deep hunger for team success. Parling noted that supporters easily connect with local, high-quality players representing the squad. Regarding the skipper, Parling stated that Chessum has evolved significantly in his leadership role, acts as a strong driver for team standards, and receives solid backing from his peers.
Parling added that he wanted to form his own judgment upon arrival despite hearing positive reports previously. During initial training sessions, the coach observed Chessum’s strong desire for personal improvement, noting that it closely matched his own vision for team performance and training methods. Parling concluded that the player possesses specific traits essential for a team captain.
