Newcastle defender Amar Dedic stopped by police with bow and arrows

Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic was stopped by police after being spotted carrying a bow and arrows at a Northumberland beauty spot. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international was with a friend in a car when authorities intervened following a report from a member of the public.

Police Intervention and Investigation

According to reports, six police vehicles including armed units were dispatched, and the vehicle was intercepted roughly seven miles from the original sighting location. Officers searched the automobile and confiscated the bow and arrows, ultimately determining that the two individuals posed no danger to the community. BBC Sport understands that the 24-year-old player had no harmful intent and cooperated completely with the authorities.

Teammate goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett reportedly arrived at the location while law enforcement officers were talking to Dedic. It is understood that both players were in the vicinity by coincidence and stopped to offer help. The occurrence took place on Wednesday, two days after Dedic featured in Newcastle’s 1-0 home loss against Everton following his arrival from Benfica for approximately £30m in August.

Northumbria Police issued a statement without naming Dedic, confirming that inquiries are ongoing. The department stated that it received a call regarding two men carrying a bow and arrows near a reservoir track along Military Road in the Harlow Hill sector. The statement noted that officers attended, stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area, and seized the equipment, adding that the items were understood to be for recreational use with no public threat.

Upcoming Fixtures

Newcastle United, currently 13th in the Premier League standings with 11 points from nine matches, has declined to comment on the matter. The club is scheduled to play away at Fulham on Saturday ahead of the upcoming November international break.

Dedic has appeared in 10 league and cup matches since moving to Newcastle and has earned a selection in the Bosnia-Herzegovina squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures against Sweden on 14 November and Romania on 17 November.
