Los Angeles Rams superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett is on track to return from injured reserve and take the field against the Washington Commanders in Week 9, according to a Friday report by NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Garrett’s Return Poses a Major Test for Washington
The potential comeback spells trouble for Washington on Sunday, as Garrett is widely regarded as one of the most dominant pass rushers in the sport when performing at his peak, and remains difficult to contain even when operating below full strength.
Garrett has spent the majority of the current season sidelined with a knee problem. After missing significant time during Rams training camp due to the injury, he participated in the regular-season opener before landing on injured reserve and undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Having resumed practice this week, he is now on course to make his comeback.
Opponents will need a collaborative approach to contain Garrett should he play, utilizing running backs and tight ends to assist offensive tackles on both sides of the line of scrimmage with chipping assignments.
“It’s hard to simulate any type of explosiveness like that,” Commanders head coach Dan Quinn stated during a Friday press conference. “He’s long. He’s bigger than you think. He has been a player you admire watching because of the play style and the attitude and the things he can do. The rusher part of it is what you’re measured on, but this is a complete player in every way.”
