Major League Baseball free agency is officially underway following the Milwaukee Brewers clinching the first World Series title in franchise history. As eligible players begin negotiations with all 30 teams, analysts at CBS Sports have offered predictions on potential destinations for several top available players.
Pitching Market: Adrian Morejon and Trevor Rogers
Left-handed pitcher Adrian Morejon, ranked second on the list, is generating interest from multiple analysts due to his versatility. CBS Sports analyst Mike Axisa suggested the Chicago Cubs as an ideal fit, noting Morejon’s desire to transition into a starting role by 2027 while providing bullpen support if needed. Matt Snyder agreed on the Cubs landing Morejon, adding that Chicago ownership may avoid top-tier options like Tarik Skubal and seek Morejon as a starter given Wrigley Field’s favorable conditions for lefties. Meanwhile, Dayn Perry projected Morejon to the New York Yankees, highlighting his youth and elite bullpen performance as qualities the Yankees would pay for.
Ranked third, Trevor Rogers is expected to be a target for analytics-focused front offices. Axisa tied Rogers to the New York Mets, emphasizing his four above-average pitch offerings and ability to induce weak contact. Perry predicted Rogers would end up with the Cubs to bolster a rotation competing in the same division as the champion Brewers. Snyder instead pointed to the Atlanta Braves, citing their recent pitching injury struggles, Chris Sale’s age, and the team’s need for starting depth and long-term left-handed pitching options.
Potential Destinations for Freddy Peralta
Right-handed starter Freddy Peralta, the fifth-ranked free agent, drew varying team predictions from the panel. Axisa bypassed long-rumored links with the Cubs to project Peralta to the Chicago White Sox, explaining that the club urgently needs a reliable, every-fifth-day starter to reduce reliance on bullpen games. Perry projected a return to the Tampa Bay Rays, noting Peralta’s strong performance after arriving from the New York Mets via trade and pointing to the Rays’ evolving financial situation with a new stadium on the horizon.
Snyder offered a different perspective, projecting Peralta to the Seattle Mariners. He noted that potential trade movement involving current starters Logan Gilbert or George Kirby could open a rotation vacancy in Seattle, where Peralta would benefit from pitching in a pitcher-friendly environment.
Offensive Targets: Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Randy Arozarena
Sixth-ranked infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. presents an intriguing dynamic bat on the market. Axisa predicted Chisholm would sign with the Toronto Blue Jays to play second base, providing needed left-handed power and athleticism alongside Ernie Clement. Perry suggested a move to the Detroit Tigers on a short-term or high-AAV contract featuring opt-outs, comparing the fit to Detroit’s past success with Gleyber Torres. Snyder anticipated a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, predicting they might trade Ketel Marte and clear second base for Chisholm to bet on a rebound season.
Outfielder Randy Arozarena, ranked ninth, attracted consensus interest for teams seeking designated hitter or corner outfield depth. Axisa projected Arozarena to the Texas Rangers, noting that team president Chris Young wants added offensive toughness to complement Brandon Nimmo and Corey Seager. Both Perry and Snyder predicted Arozarena would land with the Philadelphia Phillies, pointing to executive Dave Dombrowski’s history of making aggressive, win-now moves to upgrade the team’s corner outfield spots.
