Paris Saint-Germain delivered the standout performance of Tuesday night’s Champions League fixtures by thrashing Villarreal 6-0 in Spain, while Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 victory against Atletico Madrid. Elsewhere, Inter Milan earned a comfortable win over Feyenoord, and Galatasaray, Sporting CP, and LASK also claimed victories.
Bayern Munich Defeats Atletico Madrid
Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 away win against Atletico Madrid courtesy of second-half goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer. Karl broke the deadlock in the 54th minute by capitalizing on a defensive error by Robin Le Normand to give the German champions the lead. Laimer sealed the result 20 minutes later after receiving a pass from Harry Kane, leaving Diego Simeone’s squad with insufficient time to mount a comeback.
Paris Saint-Germain Dominates Villarreal
Paris Saint-Germain overwhelmed Villarreal with a blistering start, netting four goals within the opening 17 minutes on their way to a 6-0 triumph. Joao Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by quickfire strikes from Desire Doue and Senny Mayulu to put the French champions 3-0 ahead. Fabian Ruiz added the fourth in the 17th minute before scoring his second shortly after the break. Boly capped off the scoring in the 78th minute to ensure Luis Enrique’s team maintained their perfect start to the Champions League campaign, as reported by 101 Great Goals.
Galatasaray and Sporting CP Secure Victories
Galatasaray defeated VfB Stuttgart 2-0 in Istanbul, powered by two goals in three first-half minutes from Aleksey Batrakov. Stuttgart nearly struck first when Jamie Leweling hit both goalposts, but Batrakov opened the scoring in the 12th minute after pouncing on Roland Sallai’s deflected cross. The Russian midfielder added his second three minutes later by latching onto a long ball over the defence from Davinson Sanchez and slotting past Fabian Bredlow. Stuttgart had a second-half goal by Chris Fuhrich disallowed for offside as Galatasaray preserved their lead.
In London, Issa Doumbia scored the decisive goal as Sporting CP edged Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Shakhtar nearly broke the deadlock early in the second half when Kaua Elias had a shot saved by Rui Silva, with Goncalo Inacio clearing the rebound off the goal line. Sporting capitalized on that missed chance in the 59th minute when Doumbia linked up with Sergi Altimira to score from close range. Eduardo Quaresma nearly extended the visitors’ lead shortly after, but Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk made a strong save.
Inter Milan and LASK Claim Comprehensive Wins
Bodo/Glimt and Lille played out a 0-0 draw in Norway as neither side could break the deadlock. The Norwegian champions, who previously defeated Borussia Dortmund 1-0 in the tournament, were unable to replicate that form against their French opponents.
Inter Milan cruised to a 3-0 victory against Feyenoord in Rotterdam, with Yann Bisseck, Francesco Pio Esposito, and Piotr Zielinski finding the back of the net. Bisseck gave Cristian Chivu’s team an ideal start by opening the scoring in the eighth minute. Esposito doubled the advantage in the 34th minute, leaving the Dutch hosts facing a steep deficit at half-time. Zielinski added the third nine minutes into the second half to comfortably see out the remainder of the match.
LASK secured a 4-0 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava in Austria, building a three-goal cushion before the interval. Jorgensen opened the scoring in the 19th minute and netted his second 18 minutes later to put the hosts firmly in command. Marin Ljubicic added a third just before the break to leave Slovan facing an insurmountable task.
