Bears Plan Workout for Free Agent DT Jordan Elliott

The Chicago Bears intend to work out former Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jordan Elliott next week, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The soon-to-be 29-year-old defensive lineman stands at 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 325 pounds, boasting 65 starts and 102 total games played in his career before his release by the Titans on October 20.

Practice Altercation and Gun Incident

On Thursday, October 15, Elliott engaged in a practice altercation with his teammate, offensive lineman JC Latham, and received orders to leave the field. He exited the facility, proceeded to his car located in the players’ parking lot, and retrieved a gun. Another teammate, defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers, successfully de-escalated the situation without any further incident, as reported by Aaron Wilson of Houston’s KPRC 2 and Sports Talk 790.

An NFL source described the severity of the event, stating, “This was so crazy. Jordan has been having a lot of problems away from the building and obviously he brought it to work with him. There was no reason for him to go off like that. Everyone thought that was wild. To overreact like that is absolutely crazy. We’re just glad that no one got hurt and it’s over.”

Coach Comments and League Investigation

Sources indicated that Elliott was dealing with personal family issues and brought his resulting frustration and anger to the workplace. Titans coach Robert Saleh previously mentioned that Elliott had been handling personal matters. Bringing a firearm onto team property violates NFL rules, prompting an ongoing league investigation into the matter.

Following Elliott’s release, Robert Saleh addressed the incident extensively, stating, “These kids go through a lot. I will stand on the table for Jordan’s character. My message to 31 other teams: If you need a hell of a run-stopping DT that can help for a playoff run, give me a call. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgment.”

The Bears hold a walk-through at Halas Hall on Saturday and prepare to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football, with Elliott’s workout expected to take place next week during the team’s bye.
