Manager Andoni Iraola cautioned that prior victories against Arsenal will carry little weight when the two teams clash at Anfield on Sunday. Despite defeating Mikel Arteta’s side in three of their last four encounters, Iraola stressed that a fresh tactical approach is required.
Adapting Tactics for Arsenal
Iraola built an impressive managerial record against the Gunners during his tenure with Bournemouth. However, as reported by 101 Great Goals, he insisted that past outcomes will have no bearing on the upcoming Premier League fixture.
“It is true that I do have good results with Bournemouth against them but this doesn’t mean a lot,” Iraola said ahead of Sunday’s meeting. “This is a totally different team, a different group of players in a different moment. We cannot use the same things we used with Bournemouth against Arsenal.”
He emphasized the necessity to adapt to current circumstances, adding, “We have to use different tools, use our players as good as we can and trust them.”
Key Battlegrounds Identified
Looking ahead to the contest, Iraola highlighted physical duels and set-piece scenarios as the decisive elements where his team must compete effectively.
“At the end it is going to be a matter of winning the duels, running more than them, winning the set-play mini-games and these sort of things you have to control against Arsenal,” Iraola stated.
His remarks indicate that overcoming Arsenal will depend on matching their work rate and controlling fine margins across the pitch as the squad seeks to improve its league form.
