Alcaraz and Fery Advance to Vienna Open Quarter-Finals

Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the Vienna Open quarter-finals after overcoming a tough challenge from Nikoloz Basilashvili with a 6-1 7-6 (13-11) victory. The world No 3 reached the 60th quarter-final of his ATP Tour career and will next face Tommy Paul.

Alcaraz Survives Tiebreak Battle

Alcaraz dominated the opening set by hitting nine winners, but Basilashvili fought back in the second set. The Georgian erased an early break and saved two break points to force a dramatic tiebreak. Basilashvili built a 4-1 lead in the tiebreak before Alcaraz leveled the score at 4-4 with a powerful forehand to the baseline. Both players traded points up to 11-11 before Basilashvili finally yielded under the pressure.

Fery and Medvedev Secure Wins

Britain’s Arthur Fery advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Lyon Open champion Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 5-7 6-4. Fery fought back from a 4-2 deficit in the deciding set to set up a quarter-final match against top seed Alexander Zverev. The 24-year-old previously faced Musetti in September at the US Open, where he suffered a straight-sets defeat.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev booked a quarter-final meeting with French qualifier Adrian Mannarino after a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-1) win over Cameron Norrie. After dropping the first set, Medvedev fell behind 3-0 in the decider when Norrie struck a cross-court winner. A frustrated Medvedev crouched and repeatedly punched the court before staging a comeback, dominating the tiebreak by winning seven consecutive points.
