Former Los Angeles Kings forward Pierre-Luc Dubois recorded a goal and an assist on Saturday night, leading the Washington Capitals to a 4-3 victory against the Florida Panthers at Capital One Arena. The win allowed Washington to snap a two-game home losing streak.
Capitals Rally After Early Deficit
Washington opened the scoring when Jack St. Ivany netted his first career NHL goal. However, Florida quickly responded in the opening period through Brady Tkachuk, who scored twice to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. His brother, Matthew Tkachuk, assisted on both goals, giving the pair four combined points in the first period.
The Capitals fought back in the second period when Alex Tuch scored to tie the game at 2-2. Washington then took a 3-2 lead later in the period as Aliaksei Protas converted a setup from Dubois.
Dubois Provides Third-Period Cushion
Dubois extended Washington’s advantage to 4-2 at the 4:42 mark of the third period. Capitalizing on a pass from Protas, Dubois reached around Florida goaltender Akira Schmid to slide the puck over the goal line for the eventual game-winner.
The multi-point effort marked another key performance for Dubois in his first season with Washington. During his single season with the Kings in 2023-24, he registered 16 goals and 24 assists across 82 regular-season games, along with one goal in five playoff contests.
Florida forward Sam Bennett cut the deficit to 4-3 with 47 seconds remaining in regulation, but Washington held on for the win. Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson finished the night with 27 saves.
