No. 12 Ohio State suffered a 41-28 defeat against No. 23 Oregon at Ohio Stadium on Saturday. The loss marked the second consecutive defeat for the Buckeyes following an Oct. 31 loss to USC, raising questions about head coach Ryan Day’s job security.

Contract Buyout and Recent Extension

The buyout on Day’s contract stands at $75 million, as reported by Fox Sports. He previously signed a seven-year agreement with the Buckeyes in February 2025 that keeps him under contract through the 2031 season.

Season Standings and Championship Odds

Saturday’s result dropped Ohio State to a 6-3 overall record this year, including a 4-2 mark in the Big Ten. Following the loss, the Buckeyes hold +7500 odds to capture the national championship, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Game Performance and Quarterback Situation

Ohio State played without starting quarterback Julian Sayin, who missed his second straight game due to a right arm injury. Oregon was also missing its first-string passer, Dante Moore. Luke Fahey filled in as the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes, completing 36 of 50 passes for 360 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

The Buckeyes built an early 14-0 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter before the Ducks rattled off 38 unanswered points to secure the blowout victory. Oregon’s offense generated 395 total yards without turning the ball over, while Ohio State star receiver Jeremiah Smith showed clear frustration during the third quarter.

The Buckeyes will look to rebound when they face Northwestern on Nov. 14.
