South African all-rounder Migael Pretorius has signed a new contract to return to Somerset for the 2027 season. The 31-year-old will be available to play across all three formats during his upcoming fourth campaign at Taunton.
County Career and Achievements
Pretorius has made 40 appearances for Somerset, accumulating 827 runs with a highest score of 95 not out achieved during a County Championship fixture against Nottinghamshire in 2024. In addition to his contributions with the bat, he has claimed 106 wickets with a best bowling performance of 5-64. He also played a role in helping the team secure the T20 Blast title in 2025.
Squad Value and Future Outlook
Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry told the club website that Pretorius has established himself as an essential part of the squad both on and off the field over the past few years. Hurry noted that the player embraced the club culture immediately and repeatedly showed his ability to influence matches with both bat and ball across different formats. He added that Pretorius’s experience and quality will provide important depth for the team in 2027.
