Formula 1 driver Oliver Bearman is performing strongly in his sophomore campaign, yet Haas has already confirmed Esteban Ocon’s replacement for 2027 while Bearman’s extension remains unannounced. Both parties are eager to continue their partnership into a third season, but negotiations involve more complex long-term considerations.
Contract Intentions and Komatsu’s Comments
Bearman stated in Mexico that he wants to remain with Haas, noting that the decision is not entirely in his hands and pointing to broader discussions. Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised Bearman’s potential and contribution to the team’s success, while dismissing unsubstantiated rumours regarding pay demands as absolute nonsense.
According to Autosport reporting, the delay stems from future career planning rather than the 2027 season itself. If Ferrari cannot guarantee Bearman a race seat by 2028 after loaning him to customer team Haas for three years, the British driver will be free to part ways with Maranello.
The Ferrari Roadblock
Bearman aims to complete the full Ferrari Driver Academy pathway from F4 to the Scuderia, a feat previously achieved only by Charles Leclerc. However, Lewis Hamilton exercised a contractual option to secure his place at Ferrari for 2027 following a return to form. Hamilton’s recent comments about his career longevity indicate he may not leave F1 anytime soon, while Leclerc holds a contract extension through at least 2030.
Komatsu reiterated that both sides share a clear desire to continue working together and are actively trying to finalize a solution for next year. The current priority for Bearman’s camp is ensuring that another season at Haas does not restrict his long-term opportunities, as the stakeholders work behind closed doors to balance immediate racing needs with future 2028 prospects.
