Renato Moicano Plans MMA Retirement After 3 UFC Fights

UFC lightweight contender Renato Moicano has revealed that he intends to step away from mixed martial arts once he completes the final three bouts on his current promotional contract. The Brazilian fighter outlined his roadmap for the remainder of his combat sports career and explained his desire to pursue boxing opportunities after leaving the octagon.

Transitioning to Influencer Boxing

Addressing his long-term plans, Moicano explained that he does not wish to extend his time in professional MMA beyond his existing deal. Instead, he expressed a strong interest in stepping into the ring for high-profile crossover boxing events.

“To be completely honest with you, I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don’t want to fight MMA anymore. I want to do boxing, like influencer boxing. I want to beat up people that don’t know how to fight,” Moicano stated in comments reported by Sherdog.com.

Avoiding Career Decline and Financial Factors

Moicano emphasized the importance of knowing when to walk away from elite competition, explicitly referencing veteran competitor Tony Ferguson as an example of a late-career trajectory he hopes to avoid.

“I don’t wanna be like Tony Ferguson. Eight fights, trying to be a champion, 40 years old, on a six-fight losing streak. I don’t want that. I’m happy. Sometimes you have to realize when you’re done. You have to realize how much gas you have left in the tank, how much love for the sport you have,” Moicano added.

Alongside preserving his health and standing in the sport, Moicano noted that financial considerations significantly influence his planned departure, stating his belief that the UFC will not offer sufficient compensation to keep him competing in MMA after his next three fights.
