Yankees Rumors: New York Ready to Part Ways with Jazz Chisholm Jr.

The New York Yankees could be moving on from second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. ahead of the upcoming season.

Yankees Future Plans Without Chisholm

As reported by Yankees insider Jack Curry via Bleacher Report – Front Page, the American League East franchise decided not to extend the $23.15 million qualifying offer to Chisholm on Monday. Curry stated, “I think the Yankees are ready to part ways with Jazz Chisholm. … There was also inconsistency for his game this season, and I think for that $23 million, the Yankees weren’t ready to go near that.”

If the infielder does not return for the 2027 campaign, Curry pointed to Anthony Volpe and José Caballero as internal options who could step in to fill his position at second base.

Recent Performance and Postseason Struggles

The Miami Marlins originally traded Chisholm to New York during the 2024 season. He delivered a strong first full year in pinstripes during 2025, recording career highs with 31 home runs and 80 RBIs alongside 31 stolen bases, following a 40-steal campaign in 2024.

His offensive numbers dipped last season as he batted .231/.312/.399 with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs, though he established a new personal best with 41 stolen bases. However, postseason performance remained a significant hurdle, as he managed a .182 batting average during each of the last two playoff runs.

Given the organization’s championship expectations, those October struggles created concerns. At 28 years old, Chisholm remains capable of productive play, but the front office appears poised to allocate financial resources toward other areas, such as bullpen depth or another prominent bat in free agency.
