The Philadelphia Eagles have no intentions of trading running back Saquon Barkley ahead of the November 10 NFL trade deadline, as reported by NFL Network journalists Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport on Sunday.
Eagles Maintain Long-Term Confidence
Garafolo and Rapoport stated that the organization remains convinced they retain sufficient talent on the roster to contend in 2027 and beyond, viewing Barkley as a key part of their future in Philadelphia. This decision provides the Indianapolis Colts with increased leverage in trade discussions regarding running back Jonathan Taylor, who remains the top available player at his position on the market.
The Eagles hold a 2-5 record and face slim playoff prospects, a difficulty compounded by the loss of quarterback Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the season due to injury. Following the trade of offensive lineman Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens, speculation arose over whether general manager Howie Roseman would adopt a selling approach before the deadline.
Barkley’s Value and Status
Barkley emerged as one of the team’s primary trade assets, despite dealing with a hamstring injury and averaging 48.8 yards per game. However, his average of 5.7 yards per carry matches his production from 2024 when he rushed for 2,005 yards. Signed through the 2028 season and maintaining his efficiency when healthy, trading the veteran ball-carrier aligns poorly with Roseman’s confidence in the team’s outlook for next year.
With Barkley off the market, attention shifts toward Indianapolis as the team navigates a roster teardown, though strong outside interest surrounds Taylor ahead of the deadline.
