Brooks Koepka Slams Bryson DeChambeau in Brutal Dig

Brooks Koepka recently delivered a sharp critique of Bryson DeChambeau during a 29-minute range session in West Palm Beach for the Dan on Golf show. The comments brought fresh attention to the ongoing tensions and silent treatment drama stemming from the 2025 Masters tournament.

Reopening the Masters Drama

When asked by Dan Rapaport about the unusual subplot from Augusta in April 2025, where Bryson DeChambeau complained that Rory McIlroy never spoke to him during the final round, Koepka offered no sympathy. “He shouldn’t have,” Koepka said of McIlroy, as reported by sports.yahoo.com. “He lives in his own world. I don’t think many people want to talk to him, regardless.”

During the final round at Augusta, DeChambeau started two shots behind McIlroy, and tournament officials paired them together in the final group. DeChambeau briefly took the lead before his round unraveled, leading to a round of 75 and a tied-for-fifth finish at 7-under. Meanwhile, McIlroy defeated Justin Rose in a playoff to secure the career Grand Slam.

Tension between the two competitors surfaced on the ninth green when they argued over putting order. DeChambeau suggested flipping a tee, while McIlroy insisted on calling a rules official to measure.

The Silent Treatment Debate

Following the round, DeChambeau expressed surprise that his playing partner never initiated a conversation all day. McIlroy responded a month later at Quail Hollow by stating he was trying to win the Masters and had no intention of being anyone’s best friend on the course. Bob Rotella, McIlroy’s sports psychologist, added that the silence was a deliberate strategy to keep the golfer focused within his own bubble.

Koepka went even further in his defense of McIlroy, noting that he and McIlroy would have done the exact same thing in a similar pairing. He explained that while he might exchange polite pleasantries with a stranger during the opening holes to break the ice, he is generally not a talker on the course. DeChambeau attempted to put the controversy to rest days after the Masters by insisting there was no bad blood and comparing the silence to Tiger Woods’ historic focus, but Koepka’s remarks have brought the incident back into the spotlight.

Koepka will compete next at the Farmers Insurance Skins Game, featuring a $4 million purse at Atlantic Fields Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida, on November 27, 2026.
