Jorge Posada Reveals Rift With New York Yankees

Former New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada revealed that he feels alienated from his longtime club, stating he no longer feels comfortable returning to the organization in any capacity. Speaking to the New York Post, as reported by CBS Sports, the four-time World Series champion explained that the atmosphere surrounding the team has led him to stay away from club facilities entirely.

Uncertainty Over Role and Presence

Posada indicated that his sense of detachment extends even to routine organizational events, such as spring training. “I mean, I could, but I don’t think they want me there, to tell you the truth,” Posada said.

The 56-year-old further explained his decision to keep his distance from the team. “I don’t feel welcome when I go there, you know? Even in spring training, I don’t feel like — I’m just like, I don’t know, I don’t feel welcome. I don’t feel like they want me there, so I don’t go,” Posada stated. He did not provide additional details or reference a specific event that led to these feelings.

A Storied Career in New York

Selected by New York in the 24th round of the 1990 MLB Draft, Posada spent his entire professional career in a Yankees uniform. Between 1995 and 2011, he served as a primary catcher during the club’s championship era under manager Joe Torre. Over his 17-year major league tenure, Posada registered 1,664 hits, 275 home runs, 1,065 RBIs, and 936 walks, accruing a career 42.7 Wins Above Replacement (WAR). He was named an All-Star five times and twice placed in the top 10 for the American League Most Valuable Player award.

The Yankees officially retired Posada’s No. 20 jersey in 2015. Following his retirement from playing, he held a front-office position with the Miami Marlins while former teammate Derek Jeter was managing baseball operations for that franchise.

The Yankees’ most recent championship came in 2009, when Posada was still the team’s starting catcher. The club was recently knocked out of the postseason during the American League Division Series by the Tampa Bay Rays.
