Alex Pereira is a major admirer of fellow knockout artist Carlos Prates, recently naming him alongside Mauricio Ruffy, Charles Oliveira, and Jean Silva as his favorite Brazilian fighters to watch in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Why Carlos Prates Stands Out to Alex Pereira
Prates holds a 24-7 record and has finished all seven of his victories inside the Octagon. He is scheduled to compete against Michael Morales for the interim welterweight title at UFC 336 on January 30, 2027, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
Speaking on the “Connect Cast” podcast, Pereira explained why the welterweight contender is his top choice among his compatriots.
“I like Prates, Ruffy, Charles, and Jean Silva—all those guys,” Pereira said. “The first one I really enjoy watching… I mean, I like knockouts, you know? Prates, in particular—he’s the man! I don’t really watch many fights, but if Prates is fighting, the only way I wouldn’t watch is if I were otherwise occupied.”
Aside from his entertaining fighting style, Pereira stated that Prates stands behind only him as the highest-earning Brazilian fighter on the UFC roster. He expressed hope that their achievements will inspire upcoming prospects from Brazil to aim high in their careers.
Pereira, who holds a 13-4 record, is preparing for his next appearance following an unsuccessful interim heavyweight title challenge against Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250. “Poatan” is set to return against Sergei Pavlovich, who holds a 21-3 record, at UFC 335 on December 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
