Ireland Captain Paul Stirling Ruled Out of Namibia Series

Ireland cricket captain Paul Stirling has been ruled out of the final two one-day international matches of his team’s series in Namibia after suffering a finger fracture.

Injury and Squad Changes

The 36-year-old skipper sustained the injury while fielding during the third ODI on Tuesday, which ended in a defeat that put Ireland 2-1 down in the five-match series. Because of the injury, Stirling was unable to take his turn batting during the team’s innings.

Tim Tector has been brought into the squad as a replacement for the injured captain. While the younger Tector brother has not yet played an ODI, he has represented Ireland in eight T20 matches, holding an average of 17 in the short format.

Series Context and Form

Stirling’s absence delivers a significant setback to head coach Gary Wilson as the team fights to recover in the series. The opening batter had been in strong form in Windhoek, recording half-centuries of 56 and 77 in the opening two encounters.

Ireland secured a victory in the first match of the tour on 22 October, but subsequently dropped the next two games by margins of 31 and 63 runs.

The tour serves as crucial preparation for upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled for next year.

The fourth match of the series takes place on Friday, followed by the concluding fixture on Sunday.
