The Mizzou softball team concluded its fall ball schedule with dominant performances over the weekend, offering a glimpse into player readiness and roster depth ahead of the spring season. As reported by sports.yahoo.com, reporters watched the Tigers secure a 28-1 victory against UA Rich Mountain on Saturday before defeating Iowa 7-1 in a 10-inning finale on Sunday.
Standout Batting and Pitching Performances
During Saturday’s blowout against community college opponent UA Rich Mountain, several players made strong impressions. East Carolina transfer Emma Jackson bounced back from an underwhelming 2026 campaign by hitting a three-run home run and a grand slam, showing a patient approach and explosive power. Senior catcher and team leader Stefania Abruscato also contributed a grand slam, while sophomore Gracie Britton shared catching duties to help manage early-season workloads.
In the pitching circle, South Carolina transfer Nealy Lamb struck out three batters across six faced in her Saturday appearance, maintaining control despite allowing two softly-hit singles. Karen’s reporting on Sunday noted that Marissa McCann put in a strong seven-inning shift against Iowa, recording six strikeouts and one walk while allowing just a leadoff triple and a home run off the top of the left-field wall.
Sunday’s Finale Against Iowa
Sunday’s matchup against Iowa saw the Tigers break open a slow start with runs in the fourth inning to seal the 7-1 victory. Abruscato added a two-run home run in the third inning, followed by a solo shot from Sidney Forrester in the fourth. The offense displayed plate discipline through multiple walks, alongside extra-base hits from Abby Hay, Forrester, Jackson, and freshman Katelynn Knight.
Additional pitching duties on Sunday were handled by Rylee Michalak in the eighth inning and Nealy Lamb, who pitched the final two frames and recorded a pair of strikeouts. Meanwhile, Mary Peyton Hodge, Natalie Touchet, and an injured Abby Carr did not play, though Carr is expected to return for the regular season.
Leadoff hitter Saniya Hill contributed two base hits and a walk alongside a run scored, though defensive adjustments may be needed after missing plays on a triple and a home run. Newcomers Katelynn Knight and Hadley Borders also earned starting nods, with Knight recording a double and Borders tallying a base hit.
The regular season is expected to kick off in February, typically in Florida, though an official schedule has not yet been released by the MU Tigers.
