Australian lightweight prospect Quillan Salkilld is set to face France’s Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round main event at UFC Sydney on February 7. The organization officially announced the headlining bout across its social media platforms, marking the promotion’s return to the venue at Afterpay Arena.
Lightweight Contenders Clash in Home Territory
The 26-year-old Salkilld enters the contest following a submission victory against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 120. Holding a 13-1 professional record, the Australian remains unbeaten in the Octagon with six consecutive wins. His recent run features four straight first-round finishes over opponents including Gamrot, Beneil Dariush, and Nasrat Haqparast, earning him performance bonuses in five of his six promotional outings.
Salkilld had previously expressed interest via social media in sharing the Octagon with either Paddy Pimblett or Saint-Denis. Following his victory at UFC Vegas 120, he specifically campaigned for a match against the Frenchman at Madison Square Garden, but will instead headline before his home fans in Australia.
Saint-Denis Aims to Rebound in Sydney
Saint-Denis, known as “The God of War,” brings a 17-4 career record into the matchup, with every victory coming via knockout or submission. The French contender looks to recover from a 52-second submission defeat to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 329. Prior to that setback, Saint-Denis had assembled a four-fight finishing streak, stopping Kyle Prepolec, Mauricio Ruffy, Beneil Dariush, and Dan Hooker within the first two rounds.
The fight card marks the UFC’s first event in Sydney since November 2017, when Fabricio Werdum defeated Marcin Tybura at UFC Fight Night 121. While the promotion’s most recent stops in the region were numbered pay-per-view events—UFC 284, UFC 312, and UFC 325—this Fight Night fixture currently features no other officially confirmed bouts on the schedule.
