As the NFL regular season nears its halfway point, several coaches find themselves facing intense pressure following a busy offseason that saw 10 coaching jobs open up. With Week 8 upon us, multiple head coaches are at risk of receiving pink slips soon as their teams struggle to meet expectations.
5. Nick Sirianni, Eagles
Nick Sirianni’s situation in Philadelphia is unusual because injuries have heavily impacted the team. During a 38-21 Monday night loss to the Cowboys, the Eagles played without Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, and Nolan Smith, while Saquon Barkley was limited in the second half due to a hamstring issue.
However, according to CBS Sports Headlines, the team was already struggling before the medical issues mounted, starting the season with two narrow wins before a blowout loss against a Caleb Williams-less Bears team in Week 3. Philadelphia also lost two-fifths of their starting offensive line when Lane Johnson retired and Cam Jurgens was traded to Baltimore, putting Sirianni’s future in jeopardy for the second consecutive season.
4. Dan Quinn, Commanders
Dan Quinn has faced rising heat since a costly clock-management miscue during a Week 5 tie against the Giants, which was sandwiched between losses that dropped the Commanders to 1-4-1 before their Week 7 bye. Washington sits at 6-16-1 since their 2024 NFC Championship run, and they recently lost star wide receiver Terry McLaurin for the season due to a knee injury sustained in Week 6 against the 49ers.
Despite the struggles, the Commanders retain some positives, including a healthy Jayden Daniels, rookie linebacker Sonny Styles, and a winnable NFC East division where every team currently holds a losing record.
3. Jim Harbaugh, Chargers
The Chargers are currently the NFL’s only winless team following the Dolphins’ victory over the Jets, making this season an unmitigated disaster in Los Angeles. The offense ranks dead last in the league in points scored, and quarterback Justin Herbert has experienced a shocking regression under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.
Herbert’s struggles are central to the questions surrounding Jim Harbaugh’s future, as the head coach was brought in specifically to elevate the quarterback’s trajectory. With the team in disarray, the Chargers’ playoff win drought will reach eight years by the end of the season.
2. Aaron Glenn, Jets
Aaron Glenn is facing criticism in New York following clock-management issues during a loss to the previously winless Dolphins, where Miami ran out the clock to extend their lead. The Jets have been outscored 107-6 in the final two minutes of the first half since the start of last season under Glenn, and the team holds an 0-8 record against division opponents since 2025.
Although owner Woody Johnson expressed a desire for patience after previous front-office and coaching changes, ongoing struggles could lead to a change of heart.
1. Shane Steichen, Colts
Shane Steichen’s tenure in Indianapolis faces extreme uncertainty following general manager Chris Ballard’s dismissal and a trade deadline process that started with sending Pro Bowl guard Qenton Nelson to the Seahawks. Steichen has dealt with severe quarterback instability, starting with Anthony Richardson’s development following the 2023 draft and Daniel Jones’ season-ending injury last year.
After starting the 2025 season 8-2 before finishing 8-9 with Philip Rivers, the Colts currently hold a 2-5 record. Steichen’s situation serves as a cautionary tale about quarterback instability, and another coach will likely occupy his seat by the time the franchise secures its next leader.
