Dave Doeren Urges NC State NIL Changes After Firing

Former NC State head coach Dave Doeren addressed the school’s NIL fund requirements on Tuesday, calling for increased financial commitment following his dismissal on Saturday.

Doeren Speaks on Program Resources

Doeren emphasized that athletic funding must align with institutional goals in modern collegiate athletics, expressing hope that the football program receives greater backing moving forward, as reported by On3.com’s Noah Fleischman.

The university dismissed its longtime head coach following a 3-5 start to the 2026 season. This marked a significant setback for the Wolfpack, who achieved a winning record in five out of the previous six campaigns.

During a 14-year tenure leading the team, Doeren accumulated an overall record of 98-74.

NIL Funding Comparison in the ACC

Data from The Athletic indicates that NC State operates with an NIL budget ranging between $22 million and $26 million, placing the institution sixth among 17 Atlantic Coast Conference programs.

However, this financial backing trails significantly behind elite programs nationwide. For instance, conference leader Miami boasts an undefeated 7-0 overall record and a 5-0 mark in league play while utilizing an estimated NIL budget between $44 million and $50 million, also according to The Athletic.

Todd Goebbel has assumed duties as interim head coach, stepping into the role after previously working as the program’s running backs coach and special teams coordinator.
