Joe Schoen Addresses Giants QB Situation With Dart and McCarthy

The New York Giants acquired J.J. McCarthy via trade after Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending injury, and the young signal-caller has made an immediate impact since taking over. Having two promising 23-year-old former first-round draft picks in the quarterback room creates an interesting dynamic for the franchise.

Managing the Young Quarterbacks

General manager Joe Schoen expressed confidence when speaking to reporters about managing both talented young passers. “To have two young guys with Jaxson and J.J., both talented players, it’s a good position to be in,” Schoen told reporters. “It’s a good position to be in.”

Dart remains positioned as the team’s primary franchise quarterback moving forward. During his 2025 rookie campaign, he put up impressive numbers by throwing for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while also adding 487 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

McCarthy’s Recent Performance

Although McCarthy experienced a difficult beginning to his professional career, he is showing significant improvement in New York. During his debut with the Giants against the New Orleans Saints, he recorded 243 passing yards during the fourth quarter alone. He followed that up last week by throwing for 252 yards in an overtime victory against the Houston Texans.

Sustaining this high level of play could make McCarthy a valuable trade commodity for the organization once Dart returns from injury next season. In the meantime, McCarthy aims to demonstrate his ability to consistently perform as a starting quarterback.
