Gotham FC Cements Dynasty Status

Entering the day needing only a draw, Gotham FC secured a 2-0 home victory against the Utah Royals at Sports Illustrated Stadium to claim their first-ever Shield. The East Coast side triumphed through the league’s first 30-match schedule, holding off late-season pushes from Washington Spirit and San Diego Wave. San Diego defeated Bay FC 1-0, but Gotham established early control when forward Midge Purce delivered a cross that set up Guro Reiten for the opening goal.

The lengthy season took a toll on Gotham’s roster through late-season injuries, including season-ending setbacks for defender Bruninha and rookie forward Jordynn Dudley. Jaedyn Shaw returned from injury to score the final goal as a substitute, while Rose Lavelle also made her return. However, midfielder Jaelin Howell exited the match in the first half with a right ankle injury and will undergo evaluation ahead of the quarterfinals.

Seattle Reign Clinch Final Playoff Spot

The battle for the eighth and final playoff spot involved Seattle Reign, North Carolina Courage, and Denver Summit, with Seattle controlling their own destiny. Staying true to a defensive identity, Seattle earned a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pride while honoring longtime veteran Jess Fishlock. Center back Jordyn Bugg scored the decisive goal just past the hour mark following a set piece involving a double flick.

Seattle Reign will now prepare to face top-seeded Gotham FC in the quarterfinal round on Sunday, Nov. 8.
