Penguins Place Soderblom on IR, Make Multiple Roster Moves

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced several significant roster adjustments following practice on Wednesday.

Roster Additions and Injuries

The team placed forward Elmer Soderblom on injured reserve after he was previously listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury on Tuesday. Soderblom registered an assist in the team’s 3-2 overtime victory against the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

Additionally, the Penguins activated forward Justin Brazeau from injured reserve and assigned him to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for a conditioning stint. Brazeau suffered an injury during the pre-season and has not appeared in a game since.

Player Assignments and Team Status

Forward Avery Hayes and defenseman Chase Pietila were also assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Pietila did not appear in any NHL games during his recent call-up, while Hayes played in the Saturday matchup against Nashville. Hayes performed well in that contest, prompting the assessment that it will not be long before he secures a full-time spot in the NHL.

Forward Rutger McGroarty remains with the NHL club despite missing Wednesday’s practice session, and he currently projects as the team’s 13th forward.

The Penguins resume their schedule on Thursday against the Utah Mammoth, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. ET on SportsNet Pittsburgh and available via radio on 105.9 ‘The X.’
