Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson experienced a frightening moment during Thursday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers after suffering a chest injury that required a trip to the hospital.
Hospitalization and Dramatic Return
After landing awkwardly following a catch, Watson walked off the field and into the locker room under his own power. The team announced that he was subsequently transported to a local hospital for precautionary testing.
Watson told Kaylee Hartung of Amazon Prime following the game that he resisted going to the hospital, but complied after being told it was necessary because he was spitting up blood, as reported by Bleacher Report – Front Page. He was cleared to leave the hospital and returned to the sideline in dramatic fashion by the third quarter, making it back onto the field before the start of the fourth quarter.
Performance Before the Injury
Prior to exiting the matchup, Watson was having an exceptional game, tallying six receptions for 100 yards. His final play before the injury was a 53-yard reception from quarterback Jordan Love in the second quarter.
The stellar outing allowed Watson to eclipse his previous career-high in receiving yards in just seven games. Entering Thursday’s contest, the fifth-year receiver ranked seventh in the league with 595 receiving yards, second with six receiving touchdowns, and third with a 17.5 yards-per-reception average.
Injury History and Impact on Offense
The Packers’ offense, which has averaged 328.4 yards and 20.6 points per game this season, would face a significant blow if Watson misses any extended time. Selected in the second round of the 2022 draft, Watson has battled multiple injuries throughout his career, including missing games as a rookie, playing only nine games in 2023, and tearing his ACL at the end of the 2024 season which sidelined him for the first seven games of 2025.
Watson aims to steer clear of another major setback as he works to maintain his standout campaign.
