UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski believes his dominant victory over Movsar Evloev came down to a bad stylistic matchup rather than a decline in his opponent’s abilities.
Post-Fight Assessment of Evloev
Volkanovski defended takedowns and secured a second-round finish via strikes against Evloev at UFC 333 this past Saturday. Entering the championship bout, observers anticipated that Evloev’s relentless pace and grappling skills would pose an unprecedented challenge at 145 pounds. The champion successfully countered those threats and suggested that the Russian contender remains a formidable force in the weight class.
Volkanovski praised his opponent’s overall level, stating that the performance represented the best version of Evloev. “I feel like even if that same Movsar – see, this is going to be hard for people to understand or believe. If that Movsar fought anyone else in the division, he walks through them,” Volkanovski said, according to Freak MMA. The champion added that his unique skill set simply created a nightmare matchup, predicting a strong bounce-back performance in Evloev’s next appearance.
Previous Accomplishments in the Division
Before facing Volkanovski, Evloev maintained an undefeated record inside the Octagon with a career mark of 20-1 overall and 10-1 in the UFC. His prior résumé featured notable victories over established contenders such as Diego Lopes, Lerone Murphy, and Aljamain Sterling.
Volkanovski holds a professional record of 29-4 overall and 16-3 in the UFC following the successful title defense.
