A matchup between Van and Yan stands out as a bucket-list encounter for mixed martial arts enthusiasts, given both fighters’ aggressive styles and crowd-pleasing approach to striking. At 25 years old, Van has established himself in the flyweight division following consecutive title defenses against Alexander Pantoja and Tatsuro Taira, with a forthcoming title defense scheduled against Manel Kape at UFC 336.
Yan enters the discussion following successive victories over Merab Dvalishvili, strengthening his standing in the 135-pound weight class. While Yan has impending rematches against Sean O’Malley and Song Yadong to address first, a potential superfight against Van remains a possibility should he overcome those challengers.
